Collaborations with civil society and non-governmental organizations have led us to develop several reports that summarize and synthesize relevant research literatures, so that academic insights can more readily inform social policy and public debates.

Renewing American Democracy: Navigating a Changing Nation

This report was developed in partnership with Beyond Conflict, to identify key drivers of social division in the United States and strategies that may be used to ease cross-group tensions and rebuild the social fabric of American society. The content of the report grew from intensive working group conversations among academics from multiple social science disciplines, and from sharing academic insights with policy advocates, political strategists, public intellectuals to gain their input on analysis and proposed strategies for intervention.

Reweaving the Social Fabric Through Integrated Schools

This brief report was written at the request of the National Coalition on School Diversity, as schools remain one of the few social institutions that have the potential to bring youth together across racial and ethnic lines.  Through summarizing relevant research evidence, the report highlights the value of interracial contact between youth to prepare them to thrive in a multiracial society, with special attention to social relations among youth within the context of U.S. schools. 

The Science of Equality in Education

This report was developed to inform educators, administrators, and civil rights litigators of ways in which psychological processes – most notably, implicit bias, racial anxiety, and stereotype threat – may inadvertently produce disproportionate educational outcomes for students from varied racial and ethnic backgrounds. The report was developed in collaboration with Perception Institute, the Othering and Belonging Institute (formerly the Haas Center for a Fair and Inclusive Society at the University of California, Berkeley), and the Center for Policing Equity (now based at Yale University).
